Match Report

Two struggling sides belied lowly Championship status to serve up a feast of football and high drama that warmed a crowd of 7,452 on a day of freezing temperatures and rising tempers at Bloomfield Road.

Scotland international Charlie Adam marred his Blackpool debut by being red carded for kicking ex-Seasider Richie Wellens midway through the second half.

The home side started brightest, carving out a series of half chances as both teams struggled to master a rutted pitch.

Veteran Doncaster keeper Neil Sullivan denied Blackpool three times before David Vaughan gave Pool a deserved lead.

He beat away a Dudley Campbell shot before Adam, for whom the day was to nosedive, fired two venomous shots that, on another day, would have found the net.

On the quarter hour, Vaughan lit up the game with a goal of the highest quality, side-stepping two defenders before stroking a glorious left-footed shot into the corner of the net.

Blackpool continued to dominate until the 26th minute when David Fox spurned the easiest chances to double the home side's lead.

Clever interplay with Campbell carved open the Rovers' defence, but Fox shot weakly into Sullivan's midriff from close range.

An instant breakaway saw the visitors equalise after James Coppinger's incisive throughball set up a move which ended with Brian Stock firing home from ten yards.

Doncaster dominated thereafter with Coppinger tormenting a rattled Blackpool defence and, on 53 minutes, he combined with Wellens to set up Sam Hird, who fired home from close range.

Within two minutes, Campbell had run half the length of the pitch to fire home an equaliser.

Fittingly Coppinger scored a peach of a winner after capping a dazzling 30-yard run with an unstoppable shot.
