O'Connor in Rams frame New signing James O'Connor could recover from injury to be included in the Derby squad for the opening game of the npower Championship campaign at home to Sheffield Wednesday. O'Connor, a summer arrival from Doncaster, was absent with a thigh problem on Tuesday night as the Rams began the season with defeat in the Capital One Cup in an astonishing first-round tie at Pride Park. The versatile defender was also expected to miss the visit of the Owls but manager Nigel Clough said: "James has a chance. He could train on Friday." Midfielder Jeff Hendrick has trained this week wearing a splint to protect the wrist injury he suffered during the pre-season friendly defeat at Chesterfield last Saturday and Clough hopes to have him available too. Jamie Ward will definitely be included after missing the penalty shoot-out exit to Scunthorpe while on international duty with Northern Ireland. The forward came on as a second-half substitute during his country's 3-3 draw with Finland in Belfast on Wednesday night. Midfielder Craig Bryson and left-back Gareth Roberts are also expected to train on Friday. Both players were doubtful ahead of the Scunthorpe game due to niggling injuries and they were substituted after 62 minutes of the 5-5 draw in midweek. Sheffield Wednesday strikers Gary Madine and Chris Maguire are both expected to be included in the squad. Both players sustained knocks in the midweek Capital One Cup win at Oldham, but have since come through training with no serious problem. But midfielder Chris Lines will play no part as he is still struggling with the groin injury that kept him out of the Oldham game. Manager Dave Jones has no new injury or suspension worries as his side kick-off a new season in the npower Championship for the first time since 2010. Summer signings Chris Kirkland, Kieran Lee, Joe Mattock, Anthony Gardner, Diogo Amado and Nejc Pecnik are all hoping to make their league debuts for the Owls.
