Match Report

On paper a mismatch could be on the cards when title-chasing Manchester United take on rock-bottom Derby County at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Paul Jewell started his reign as Rams boss with a heartbreaking last-gasp loss at Sunderland last Saturday, but it was a result that did little to improve the club's prospects of avoiding an immediate return to the Championship.

It also maintained Derby's dreadful record away from Pride Park this term - in eight games they have failed to score a goal and picked up only one point from a goalless draw at Fulham.

They have conceded 20 goals in that dismal run and are one of seven Premier League teams still to win on their travels so far this term.

It is an appalling sequence of results and, considering United have won seven of their eight Premier League home matches this season, conceding only one goal in the process, it is a record that is unlikely to improve this weekend.

The only team to take a league point away from Old Trafford this season was Reading on the opening weekend of the campaign, since when United have strolled to seven successive three-point hauls at home.

The only visiting player to find the net was Jeremie Aliadiere in Middlesbrough's 4-1 defeat in October.

United continue to have long-term knee injury victims Paul Scholes, Mikael Silvestre, Ben Foster and Park Ji-Sung in the treatment room, while Andy Todd (back) is County's only absentee.

United's Wayne Rooney may be handed a full 90 minutes after lasting for three-quarters of Monday's 2-0 win against Fulham on his return from an ankle injury.

The teams last met in the north-west six years ago when United strolled to a 5-0 victory against the Rams while the two teams shared four goals in the return fixture at Derby.
