Match Report

Two successive draws suggest Derby County have improved, but they face a tough test when Juande Ramos brings his in-form Tottenham team to Pride Park on Saturday.

The Rams were abject in last month's home FA Cup capitulation to Preston North End, a display that enraged manager Paul Jewell, but have responded with battling performances in draws against Manchester City and Birmingham.

Despite the upturn in results, County are still all but relegated as they are 13 points away from safety and have won only one of their 25 league games.

Jay McEveley is still at least two weeks away from a return to action as he battles back from the knee ligament damage he suffered in last month's defeat at Bolton Wanderers, but Tyrone Mears' season appears to be over.

Mears has had a pin inserted in his shin after suffering a recurrence of an old stress fracture in the FA Cup defeat to Preston.

Claude Davis and Stephen Pearson also look set to miss the game with injuries, but Australian Mile Sterjovski could make his debut after being granted international clearance following his transfer to Pride Park from Turkish side Genclerbirligi.

Spurs have this month's Carling Cup Final against Chelsea to look forward to as well as the resumption of their UEFA Cup campaign with a two-legged encounter against Slavia Prague on the horizon.

Since losing at Chelsea last month, Ramos' side have beaten Sunderland and drawn with Everton and Manchester United and are now 11th in the table.

When Ramos replaced Martin Jol as boss in October, the club were 18th in the table, but under the former Sevilla coach, Spurs have lost only five of their 24 matches and a new wave of optimism is sweeping through White Hart Lane.

However, recent signing Jonathan Woodgate is suspended for the trip to Pride Park, while Ledley King may again be rested as he continues his recovery from a long-term knee problem.

Darren Bent is doubtful with a knee injury of his own, while Gareth Bale's ankle problem is expected to keep him sidelined for the rest of the season.
