Match Report

Seething Derby County manager Paul Jewell said after his side's embarrassing defeat: "Whatever team we put out we make basic, fundamental errors, and when you concede goals like we do you're not going to win matches.

"I think that what happens is as soon as one thing goes against us we haven't got the character and confidence to bounce back from a mistake.

"Every time we make one mistake it leads to another. It has been happening all season and today was embarrassing - it is the only word I can use.

"There is another game on Wednesday (against Manchester City) and that is the beauty of football, there is always another match coming up.

"I would like to think it can't get any worse but I said that after Tuesday. We don't seem to take anything that comes to us and don't put teams under pressure.

"We work hard all week, look good in training, but we come to Saturday and seem to duck it as a group. That is why we have got seven points and have just been knocked out of the FA Cup by a Championship team.

"I am not looking for excuses, only looking for solutions."

Preston manager Alan Irvine said: "You just have to look at results in the FA Cup every year and in every round and there are shocks.

"I said to my players before the game that I would like us to be one of the shocks.

"If you had asked me what is the most important, the FA Cup or the Championship - I would have said the Championship.

"But there is no doubt that the win over Derby was very important. It's something we can feel good about, and on top of that we had the bonus of scoring a few goals."
