Green returns for Rams
Derby can welcome back Paul Green for the visit of Cardiff.
The midfielder missed the Carling Cup defeat at Crewe in midweek as he was playing the full 90 minutes of the Republic of Ireland`s 1-0 defeat to Argentina but should come straight into Nigel Clough`s side.
But defender Russell Anderson is set for a month on the sidelines after he injured his groin in the fine 2-1 win at Leeds last weekend.
Shaun Barker took his place at Crewe and should keep his place despite scoring the own goal which dumped the Rams out of the competition.
Striker Chris Porter's hip problem is not as bad as first feared and he could be fit for Saturday after he was replaced at half-time at Gresty Road.
Jake Buxton built up his match fitness with 90 minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Wednesday while midfielder Stephen Pearson is recovering from knee surgery and is six weeks away from a return.
Jay Bothroyd and David Marshall could shake off injuries to be fit for Cardiff.
Striker Bothroyd was forced off at half-time in Wednesday`s 4-1 Carling Cup triumph over Barnet but is likely to make the trip to Pride Park.
Goalkeeper Marshall withdrew from international duty with Scotland in midweek nursing an elbow problem yet could also be in contention to challenge Tom Heaton for the number one jersey.
But the pair are not the only concerns for manager Dave Jones, who will hand late fitness tests to the versatile Darcy Blake and full-back Kevin McNaughton. Should they not make it then new boy Martin John could again be asked to fill in despite a lack of match fitness.
Adam Matthews also had to be substituted shortly after half-time against Burton due to injury, while Jason Koumas got 50 minutes under his belt but is still not ready to start from the off.
Midfielder Seyi Olofinjana is expected to make Jones` squad after his arrival on loan from Hull.
Burke helps City secure Rams raid
Chris Burke struck late on as Cardiff recorded their first league win of the season with a 2-1 success at Derby.
The Glaswegian turned the ball home from close range with 12 minutes remaining after Peter Whittingham`s cross caused confusion in the Derby defence.
Michael Chopra had earlier put last season`s play-off finalists ahead after 15 minutes with a tidy 12-yard finish.
The lead lasted just 10 minutes as Tomasz Cywka poked home his first goal in English football to equalise for the Rams.
Cardiff had the first chance of the game in the 11th minute. Derby skipper Robbie Savage gave the ball away to Whittingham, who found Chopra on the right.
Chopra cut the ball back for Whittingham and his first-time shot from 15 yards was just over the bar.
The visitors took the lead four minutes later when Kris Commons was dispossessed by Burke, who picked out Chopra and the striker smartly took his time before beating Stephen Bywater.
Derby equalised in the 25th minute. John Brayford's throw into the box was chested down by Luke Varney who hooked the ball over his head. Cywka timed his run perfectly to steer a low shot past David Marshall from eight yards.
Cardiff broke swiftly in the 33rd minute with Jay Bothroyd finding Burke, who cut in from the right and saw his shot beaten behind by Bywater.
Four minutes before half-time, Commons' corner dropped to the unmarked Cywka but his volley was too close to Marshall.
Following that chance, Kevin McNaughton worringly went down and there was a lengthy delay as he was attended to by medics before leaving the field on a stretcher.
Daniel Drinkwater shot over the crossbar on the hour mark before Derby responded through Paul Green, whose shot was saved by Marshall.
Burke then converted Whittingham`s cross after Bywater and one of his defenders appeared to get in each other's way.
Shaun Barker could have rescued a point for the Rams but the ball struck the big defender on the knee as it bobbled around inside the six-yard box.
