Match Report

Brett Ormerod was Blackpool's hero as desperate Derby slumped to their second home defeat inside a week.

Ormerod scored one, forced an own goal, and could have hit three more as he led Derby's flat-footed defence a merry dance all afternoon.

As early as the second minute he smashed a shot against the bar after a neat turn on the edge of the six-yard box.

As Derby failed to get to grips with his clever running off the ball, he almost saw his cross turned into the net by Jake Buxton seven minutes later.

He was again involved on 12 minutes when he was put through but shot tamely wide of Stephen Bywater's goal.

Derby were struggling to mount a serious attack although, in the move of the half, Stephen Pearson put Lee Croft through only for the winger's shot to cannon off the keeper's legs.

Seven minutes before half-time the Seasiders deservedly opened the scoring when Ormerod was sent clear down the left and a powerful low cross was turned into his own net at the near post by Buxton.

Derby boss Nigel Clough had his full strikeforce available for selection but Chris Porter and Paul Dickov failed to make any impression up front.

Even when they were replaced by Rob Hulse and Dudley Campbell, Derby failed to create a clear chance.

Ormerod finally got the goal he deserved 15 minutes from time when Gary Taylor-Fletcher put him through and he kept his cool to slot the ball into the far corner.

He could have had another five minutes from time when he was denied a clear run at goal by a trip from Dean Moxey which earned the Derby defender his second yellow card of the afternoon.

The only effort Derby could muster before they were booed off the pitch was a Robbie Savage free-kick deep into stoppage time.
