Chester City grabbed two goals in the last minute to secure them an unlikely point in a thrilling 4-4 draw against Darlington at the Saunders Honda Stadium. The game had ebbed and flowed with Chester staging a remarkable comeback after looking dead and buried, with the Quakers twice holding a two-goal advantage. The visitors got off to the best possible start with a penalty awarded within five minutes after Phil Bolland was adjudged to have brought down Simon Johnson. The striker duly dusted himself down to send Chester keeper Chris MacKenzie the wrong way from the spot. The Quakers doubled their advantage ten minutes from the interval when a free-kick was played into the box and Akpo Sodje nodded a perfectly placed header which gave MacKenzie no chance. Chester manager Keith Curle made a triple substitution at the interval in a desperate attempt to get his side back in the match, and the move paid instant dividends as one of those substitutes, Marcus Richardson, poked the ball home after the visiting defence had failed to deal with Ben Davies' cross. However, their joy was short lived as in the 49th minute the margin was back to two goals as the Chester defence backed off and Sodje rifled a shot into the bottom corner. Neither side had gathered their breath, when the ball was in the back of the net again when excellent work by Scott McNiven set up Gregg Blundell with the simple task of tapping home to make it 3-2. A late save by Bert Bossu from Michael Branch denied Chester, and then Sodje completed his hat-trick and looked to have finally buried Chester's hopes. But Blundell's last minute strike was followed within seconds by Richardson's header for the leveller to end an enthralling game.
