The ref has blown his whistle and the match has started.
Rock-bottom Cambridge United kept their slender survival hopes alive with a stirring fightback victory over promotion-chasing Darlington. It looked bad for the home team when they conceded an early goal and they then wasted a clear chance to equalise. Darlington's Clyde Wijnhard was unmarked at the far post in the ninth minute as he tapped in following a simple left-wing cross. And midway through the half, veteran striker Iwan Roberts lashed the ball wide with only the keeper to beat. Within a minute though Roberts make amends with a close-range equaliser after Danny Chillingworth headed the ball into the goalmouth. Craig Russell hit the post for Darlington a couple of minutes later, but from that point the match ran away from them. Cambridge caught them cold by taking the lead four minutes into the second half, Andy Duncan firing in a shot which Tes Bramble appeared to help into the net, both men claiming the goal. It could have been worse for the disintegrating visitors as Roberts missed two more excellent opportunities before young substitute John Turner made it 3-1 with a shot which goalkeeper Sam Russell pushed against the post before he followed up to stab home the rebound. Darlington paid heavily for a double miss in the 74th minute when Craig Russell and then Akpo Sodje both had shots blocked.
