Match Report

League Two promotion rivals Bury and Darlington shared the spoils in an incident-packed 2-2 draw at Gigg Lane.

The home side twice went ahead, through a bizarre own goal from Darlington keeper Simon Brown and an Andy Bishop penalty.

But both times Darlington hit back, Ian Miller and Richie Foran on target to seal a point.

Darlington went close early on when Liam Hatch attempted to lob Wayne Brown from close to the by-line but the Bury keeper managed to palm his effort away.

Bishop had a shot deflected wide for the hosts and then hit the bar midway through the first half with a header from Mike Jones' cross.

Bury eventually took the lead in the 31st minute but did so in bizarre circumstances, keeper Simon Brown carrying the ball across his own line after failing to deal with a hopeful ball into the box by Efe Sodje.

But Darlington pulled one back just before half-time, Miller getting his head to a Seb Carole free-kick to power home from five yards.

Just ten minutes after the break, Bury were back in front. The referee awarded a dubious penalty when Miller tackled Glynn Hurst inside the area and Bishop smashed the spot-kick home.

Bury had chances to extend their lead, Paul Scott heading against the underside of the bar, but Darlington equalised on 72 minutes.

Steve Foster headed a Tim Ryan cross into the path of Foran and he rifled a volley into the net from the left side of the box.

But there was still time for yet more drama when Jones' nod down found Bishop unmarked six yards out on 81 minutes. The striker's shot rebounded down off the underside of the bar was judged not to have crossed the line.
