It's 3pm on Saturday, September 6th, the match has kicked off.
Aldershot Town showed they have little time for League Two reputations, gunning down Darlington with another attacking display. The Shots carried on in the same vein as last week. On six minutes, Marvin Morgan threaded John Grant inside the penalty box. Grant turned sharply and drove from 14 yards but Simon Brown saved well. From the subsequent corner Morgan rose highest to head home Scott Donnelly's cross from seven yards. Aldershot continued to press and Grant should have added a second ten minutes later. Anthony Straker showed good skill down the left flank feeding Grant, who inexplicably blazed high and wide from six yards. Two minutes later Louie Soares was then denied by another save from Brown. On 21 minutes, Brown brilliantly blocked a Soares 18-yard drive, but the Barbados international was not to be denied, when he coolly dribbled the ball into the net from a Lewis Chalmers pass on 27 minutes. The Soares-Brown duel continued in the closing minutes of the first half, the goalkeeper twice managed to thwart the Shots star. In the first minute of injury time Darlington scored with their only chance of the half, Gregg Blundell stole down the left flank after Aldershot failed to clear and Robin Hulbert poked home from three yards. Some choice words from Dave Penney galvanized Darlington, who dominated the second half. Blundell was again provider on 54 minutes when his short pass inside the area found Billy Clarke, the forward had time and space but tamely shot at Nikki Bull from five yards. Clarke then hooked a ball into the area on 63 minutes and Jason Kennedy headed straight at Bull when it would have been easier to score. On 75 minutes Scott Davies should have done better following his mazy run from the halfway line, but shot straight at Brown.
