Match Report

Dagenham Redbridge thumped a shocking Chester City side to record their first home win since December 8th and move out of the relegation zone.

It was all Daggers in the opening half as they positively flew out of the traps, looking to gain what was a vital win.

Ben Strevens gave them the perfect start on just 13 minutes, swivelling in the box to fire past John Danby.

It got even better minutes later as Anwar Uddin headed Sam Sloma's free kick past Danby before running the length of the pitch in celebration.

The shell-shocked visitors didn't know what had hit them and they were soon 3-0 down when Danny Foster's cross took a deflection and fell perfectly into the path of Dave Rainford, who guided a header into the net.

Chester had been unquestionably poor, but the home side deserved plenty of credit for taking advantage in such clinical fashion.

The visitors came out for the second half in a much more determined mood, obviously reeling from some harsh words by manger Bobby Willamson.

They pulled a goal back almost immediately when Daggers allowed a cross to reach John Murphy at the far post and he controlled the ball before firing past Kevin Roberts.

The hosts, who had been a bundle of nerves since the break, looked to have calmed them when Strevens got his second of the game, hooking a volley past Danby.

City missed a glorious chance to level on 68 minutes when Craig Lindfield put a free header straight at Roberts from just six yards.

Daggers kept attacking and should have made it 5-1 but Sam Sloma powered a shot wide from inside the box before Strevens' effort at full stretch hit the side netting.

The visitors' misery was added to in the 82nd minute when Jon Nurse headed Sloma's corner past the feeble Danby.

Although John Murphy got a consolation strike, the home side went straight up the other end in injury time and made it six as substitute Ryan Hall finished coolly.
