Match Preview

Brabec issues warning Sparta Prague defender Erich Brabec has warned his team-mates to be wary of the threat posed by Vagner Love when they travel to face CSKA Moscow in the Europa League. Brabec has experience of facing the Brazilian forward, having played for CSKA's city rivals Dinamo and for Alania Vladikavkaz in the Russian Premier Liga, and believes the 26-year-old, who bagged two goals as CSKA opened their Group F campaign with a 3-0 win at Lausanne, could be a key figure. When asked who his team-mates will need to look out for Brabec told the Sparta website: "Maybe (goalkeeper) Igor Akinfeev, he has been between the sticks for about eight years. "Then there is (Sergei) Ignashevich and the Berezutski brothers. Their defenders have played together for a long time, although otherwise their squad has changed a lot since I played in Russia. "I also played against Vagner Love. "He gets a lot of goals. Our assistant manager told us that in less than 200 games for CSKA he has over 100 goals, which says something. "The fact is he can capitalise on the bounce of a ball, or he may get on the end of a final pass and can decide a match. That makes him a great player." But Brabec does not believe his experience in Russia will make a big difference to his side's preparations. The 33-year-old said: "We will see. I know that we are doing very well physically, are uncomfortable in standard situations. For those players that you know, maybe it can be an advantage, but the squad is quite different." Sparta will be looking to retain their winning start to the competition after seeing off Italian visitors Palermo 3-2 in their opener.

Match Report

CSKA coast past Prague Three goals in the final 18 minutes saw CSKA Moscow maintain their 100% start to their Europa League Group F campaign with a 3-0 win over Sparta Prague at Arena Khimki. Sparta Prague battled manfully throughout as their hosts dominated possession but were finally undone when Seydou Doumbia fired the Russians ahead. Mark Gonzalez doubled the lead from the spot 12 minutes later before Ivorian striker Doumbia grabbed his second with four minutes remaining to seal an ultimately comfortable win. Sparta were under pressure right from the off with Keisuke Honda's long-range effort forcing keeper Jaromir Blazek into an early save. Doumbia was then off target before Gonzalez's powerful low strike was parried to safety by Blazek, although there was some brief respite for the Czechs when Juraj Kucka had their first meaningful shot on goal, easily saved by Igor Akinfeev. But Blazek still had plenty to do, with Alexei Berezutsky and Pavel Mamaev being the latest players to force him into action as the half drew to a close. Vagner Love, who had scored twice in CSKA's 3-0 win over Lausanne in their group opener, fired weakly at the keeper not long after the resumption but Sparta looked set to hang on for a draw as the game entered the final 20 minutes. But they failed to keep track of Doumbia as he stole in to meet Gonzalez's corner to score from close range and break the deadlock. Things soon got worse for the visitors when defender Erich Brabec, who had previously played for CSKA's cross-city rivals Dynamo, handled in the area. And Gonzalez made no mistake as he calmly stroked the resulting spot-kick into the left-hand corner of the net. And Sparta's misery was soon complete, Doumbia completing his brace as he tapped home after Alan Dzagoev had got clear down the right and played the ball across the box.
