CSKA eyeing qualification CSKA Moscow host Palermo in confident mood, knowing a win will see them reach the Europa League round of 32 and leave their Italian opponents struggling to progress. A 3-0 win at Palermo a fortnight ago saw Leonid Slutski's side go five points clear of Sparta Prague at the top of Group F and six ahead of the Sicilians. Another win at the Arena Khimki stadium tomorrow night would ensure the Russians of finishing at least second in the final standings and leave Palermo to battle it out with Sparta and Lausanne for the other qualifying spot. Slutski said: "We always train with the idea to improve and get better. We want to finish top of our group and we are one step away from achieving it." CSKA would be certain of finishing in top spot if they win and Lausanne beat or hold Sparta in Switzerland in the night's other Group F match. Slutski has warned his players to expect a more determined Palermo to the one they beat last month. "Palermo did not play as well as they could have in Italy," he said. "But they are still a serious, valid and strong team. We cannot underestimate them." Delio Rossi's Palermo head into the encounter on the back of last weekend's 1-0 defeat to Lazio in Serie A. The result marked their second consecutive loss and dropped the Sicilians to 10th in the standings. The Italians know they will have to be at their very best if they are to have any chance of surprising the Russians. "CSKA is a great team and we will have to be focused from start to finish," said Palermo's Swiss midfielder Pajtim Kasami. "We need to give our best to try to take home a win." It will be easier said than done, because CSKA have shown no signs of weakness. The Russians are proving prolific scorers in Europe, with nine goals scored in three games with none conceded. Palermo, who have lost both of their European away fixtures this season, will be without the services of Javier Pastore, Armin Bacinovic, Josip Ilicic and Abel Hernandez. The hosts will have to overcome the absence of defender Alexei Berezutski, who sustained a muscular injury in last week's goalless draw at Dynamo Moscow in the Russian Premier Liga.

CSKA hit back for win Three goals in seven spectacular minutes saw CSKA Moscow come from behind to beat 10-man Palermo 3-1 and secure their Europa League last-32 place. After Massimo Maccarone gave the Serie A side the lead 10 minutes in, CSKA had it all to do. However, the 31st-minute dismissal of midfielder Antonio Nocerino seriously undermined Palermo's resilience. The Russian side capitalised in the second half as Keisuke Honda and Tomas Necid (2) scored in the 47th, 50th and 54th minutes to turn the game on its head and secure the required victory. Defeat left Palermo four points off second-placed Sparta Prague and struggling to go through. A lively start saw Fabrizio Miccoli give CSKA goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev something to do, albeit with a tame shot. Necid headed a chance over at the other end before Maccarone shot wide of goal in the sixth minute. Mark Gonzalez had a speculative effort from 30 yards which Francesco Benussi saved easily before also holding onto another Necid try. In the 10th minute, though, the deadlock was broken. Miccoli produced some typically tricky play on the left before crossing for Maccarone to head into the bottom-left corner. In the 13th minute Santiago Garcia shot wide for Palermo as they looked to maintain the pressure. Three minutes later Nocerino picked up his first caution, for dissent. Zoran Tosic, Pavel Mamaev and Gonzalez were all off target with efforts from distance. On the half-hour mark, however, CSKA were handed a boost when Nocerino saw red, given a second booking for a foul on Gonzalez. Tosic was playing a key role and it was he who created the equaliser two minutes after the second half got under way. He crossed from the left and found Honda, the Japan international smashing home with his left foot. Three minutes later it was 2-1, Necid doing brilliantly to create space for the shot and firing home right-footed from 12 yards. The hosts' brilliant spell was completed by a third goal in the 54th minute, this time Honda turning provider. He crossed from the right for Necid to convert coolly from inside the box. Mamaev, Vagner Love, Sekou Oliseh and Eugeni Aldonin all had efforts for the Russian side without extending the lead as Palermo's spirit ebbed away.
