Match Preview

No worries for Gradi Crewe have no new problems so boss Dario Gradi is expected to name an unchanged side when Rotherham visit Gresty Road. The change of formation that brought victory at Gillingham last weekend is also set to remain in place. After losing the previous four matches with a 4-4-2 system, Gradi switched to a 3-5-2 line-up and it paid off as they won 3-1 in Kent. "It is not my preferred way of playing but I had to do something," said Gradi. "We need to be able to head the ball better in both boxes and this way we can with Adam Dugdale in the team." Rotherham will be without skipper Ryan Cresswell for the trip. The centre-half is troubled by a recurring back problem and pulled out of Wednesday's humiliating FA Cup defeat at York after it flared up in the warm-up. On-loan right-back Danny Coid will come back into the side after being ineligible at Bootham Crescent, so Johnny Mullins should move into a central role with Luke Ashworth the man to make way. The Millers are still unsure whether they will have goalkeeper Andy Warrington available as he also missed out on the York clash after his wife gave birth to a baby girl on Wednesday afternoon and there have since been complications. Boss Ronnie Moore has no other selection concerns to contend with but could ponder changes after the dismal showing in midweek, where the Millers exited the FA Cup to non-league opposition for the third time in four years.

Match Report

Dugdale woe hands Millers win Crewe defender Adam Dugdale scored an own goal on his home debut as Rotherham survived missing a penalty to move into fourth spot with a 1-0 win at Gresty Road. United were ahead after just 70 seconds when Crewe goalkeeper Rhys Taylor flapped at Kevin Ellison's corner-kick and the ball hit Dugdale and deflected into the back of the net. The Alex keeper did better with Ryan Taylor's turn and snapshot before Shaun Miller fluffed a volley at the other end. Ashley Westwood should have levelled when one-on-one with Jamie Annerson but the Alex midfielder planted the ball wide of the far post. Annerson then denied Clayton Donaldson with a superb reflex save and former Miller Dave Artell nodded wide before Ryan Taylor headed against the Alex crossbar. Taylor dived low to keep out Ellison's drive as the Millers cut Crewe open while Dugdale flashed a fierce shot just over the crossbar. Adam Le Fondre had the chance to extend the lead from the penalty spot when Patrick Ada was penalised for handling the striker's goalbound header. But Taylor produced a fine fingertip save to make up for his earlier error and keep Crewe in the game. But his teammates couldn't find a way through and had to rely on Taylor again to thwart Ryan Taylor's clever overhead kick.
