Match Preview

Gradi to keep the faith Crewe are likely to be unchanged for the visit of Ipswich in the Carling Cup second round. Alex go into the tie on the back of a morale-boosting 7-0 league victory over Barnet on Saturday. Calvin Zola missed that game with a knee injury and last season`s top goal scorer is likely to remain sidelined, meaning Joel Grant will keep his place in the team. Manager Dario Gradi told the club`s official website: "I don`t think I will be making any changes to the team after Saturday. "It is not often you have a result like that and if I was to leave anyone out after a 7-0 win, I would expect them to be knocking on my door." Youngster Nick Powell, a substitute at the weekend, is unavailable as he is away on international duty with the England Under-17 squad. Ipswich boss Roy Keane will hand a debut to striker Jason Scotland. Scotland has signed a one-year deal at Portman Road after cutting short his stay with Wigan and will lead the line at Gresty Road in the Carling Cup tie. Jon Stead will not feature after he left the club to join Bristol City and Town will also be without winger Andros Townsend. Townsend was sent off for an over zealous challenge in the 2-1 win at Crystal Palace on Saturday and begins a three-match ban. Centre-half Gareth McAuley has recovered from a back injury and winger Carlos Edwards returned from a groin problem to score at Selhurst Park. Mark Kennedy sustained a hamstring injury on his debut a fortnight ago and is not fit.

Match Report

Norris strike enough for Town David Norris killed off a brave attempt by Crewe to claim a second Championship scalp in the Carling Cup as Ipswich claimed a 1-0 win. Norris fired home a volley for Ipswich in the 11th minute of extra time after a tired Crewe failed to clear a corner. The League Two side knocked out Derby in round one and had the better chances to win the game before running out of steam. Clayton Donaldson nearly added to his brace in the Railwaymen's 7-0 demolition of Barnet on Saturday but narrowly failed to connect to an 11th minute Joel Grant cross from seven yards out. Roy Keane threw 31-year-old Trinidad striker Jason Scotland on at half-time after his recent move from Wigan. But former Swansea striker Scotland appeared to lack sharpness after his spell in the Premier league which yielded just one goal in 32 appearances. Keane had reserve goalkeeper Brian Murphy to thank after saves from Shaun Miller with the last kick of normal time and from substitute Byron Moore at the start of extra time before Norris sealed the win.
