Match Preview

Tootle in line for comeback Crewe defender Matt Tootle could make a surprise return when Dario Gradi`s side welcome Bury to Gresty Road. The right-back suffered a hamstring injury in the Carling Cup defeat to Ipswich last month but has made a swift return to training to put himself in contention. Rhys Taylor will continue after Gradi agreed a deal to extend the goalkeeper`s loan deal from Chelsea until the end of the season. The 20-year-old joined the League Two club on an initial two-month deal as cover for Steve Phillips, who is recovering from shoulder surgery. That deal was due to expire on Wednesday. Phillips is nearing a return after stepping up his training routine this week but is not yet fit enough to feature. Bury manager Alan Knill is able to choose from a full-strength squad for the clash. The Shakers edged a thrilling encounter 5-4 at home to Gillingham last weekend and picked up no injuries or suspensions. Striker Andy Bishop looks set to start up front alongside Ryan Lowe again after both men scored twice against the Gills. The highly-rated strike pairing have already scored six goals between them this season and defender Ben Futcher believes they will continue to find the net on a regular basis. Futcher said: "Bishop and Lowe have always got goal in them, they are a good front pairing. "We can also get goals from out wide as well so long may it continue."

Match Report

Schu left blue as Shakers slump Former Crewe midfielder Steven Schumacher suffered a nightmare return to Gresty Road as Bury slumped to a 3-0 defeat. Schumacher was sent off for two bookable offences as goals from Shaun Miller, Dave Artell and Luke Murphy rocketed Crewe into ninth place. Another former Alex man, Efe Sodje, also had a bad day. His mistake gifted Crewe the perfect start after just three minutes. The defender's block fell to the feet of Miller who drilled past Cameron Belford from 10 yards. Clayton Donaldson was denied at the far post by Belford but the unmarked Artell doubled the Alex's lead with a powerful header from the resulting 18th-minute corner. Belford then kept out another two Miller efforts with superb saves and recovered well to deny the youngster again after he spilled Ashley Westwood's shot. Bury had little to offer in response with just two tame efforts from yet another former Crewe man Ryan Lowe and another fluffed chance from full-back Phil Picken. Things got worse for the Shakers in the 62nd minute when Schumacher received a second yellow following a high challenge on Zola. Murphy added a third goal, powering the ball into the top corner in the 71st minute, before Belford saved Donaldson's penalty after Nick Powell had been brought down in the box by Joe Skarz.
