Us to stand by Cousins Goalkeeper Mark Cousins will keep his place when Colchester host Carlisle on Friday night. Cousins' two errors gifted Darren Bent both goals in Sunderland's 2-0 Carling Cup win over the Us in midweek, and regular number one Ben Williams is close to fitness following an ankle injury. But manager John Ward has confirmed Cousins will be in goal against the Cumbrians.
Full-back Marc Tierney returns after missing out at the Stadium of Light through illness and centre-half Paul Reid is close to fitness after a groin injury kept him out. Midfielder Kem Izzet came off with an ankle knock but has been passed fit. Simon Hackney (back) is doubtful and Steven Gillespie (ankle), John-Joe O'Toole and Morten Knudsen (both knee) are still out. Carlisle boss Greg Abbott is likely to keep faith with the same starting line-up for a fifth successive game.
Abbott has named the same side for all of the Cumbrians' four games so far this season and has been rewarded with two wins and a draw so far in the League. With no new injury concerns or suspensions Abbott is unlikely to change the side that swept past MK Dons 4-1 last weekend. Defender Danny Livesey will be sidelined until the autumn as he recovers from a groin injury and he hopes to return to training in eight weeks. Striker Jason Price has a small muscle tear sustained in training and is expected to be sidelined for a fortnight.

Cumbrians snatch point Paul Thirlwell struck a stoppage-time equaliser to salvage a 1-1 draw at Colchester which kept Carlisle top of npower League One. Thirlwell swept home in the third minute of injury time from close range after Gary Madine had fired the ball into a crowded area. Colchester were the better side in the first half and took the lead just before the half-hour mark. Brian Wilson's deep cross was headed in convincingly from close range by on-loan striker David Mooney for his first league goal for the U's. Anthony Wordsworth was denied by goalkeeper Adam Collin before half-time but Carlisle were much improved in the second half and Craig Curran and Francoise Zoko went close for the visitors. U's goalkeeper Mark Cousins pulled off a fine one-handed save to foil the impressive Madine shortly after the hour mark and Zoko hit the bar with an acrobatic effort before Thirlwell struck late on to salvage a point for the Cumbrians.
