Vincent in Us frame
Ashley Vincent is in contention to make his Colchester return as Bournemouth visit the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
The striker had recovered from the knee injury that had sidelined him since August in time to face Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, but was not included in John Ward's squad for the 2-0 defeat.
Defender Magnus Okuonghae returns from suspension to bolster the Us backline, and Ward may be tempted to reintroduce Pat Baldwin in defence following the loss in South Yorkshire.
The 28-year-old has almost recovered from a broken toe and will face a late assessment.
Tom Eastman was recalled from his loan spell at Crawley to cover for Okuonghae and Baldwin at the back, but after his return ended in defeat, he may sit out the midweek clash.
Centre-half Matt Heath (ankle) is a definite absentee as the Us look to bounce back from a first npower League One defeat in five games.
Bournemouth boss Lee Bradbury will assess the fitness of midfielders Harry Arter and Joe Partington.
Both players were injured during Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Bury - Partington replaced Arter then had to be replaced by Wes Fogden - and are rated as doubtful.
Shaun MacDonald (toe) is close to a return but will not feature, while Mark Molesley (hamstring) remains out.
New signing Charlie Sheringham could again make the bench and will be hoping to make his debut.
Canadian international Jaime Peters should again feature after extending his loan spell from Ipswich for another month.
The Cherries will travel to Essex looking to end a poor run of form in the league, having gone five games without a win.
Cherries rue Zubar error
A Stephane Zubar own goal prevented Bournemouth from securing a vital win at Colchester as they drew 1-1.
The Cherries went ahead after just 16 seconds through Wesley Thomas, who fired a sweet shot past Ben Williams and into the far corner after being picked out by Scott Malone.
Thomas headed straight at Williams soon after but the Us finished the half strongly.
Michail Antonio nodded just wide and Ian Henderson was denied in the final minute of the half by goalkeeper Darryl Flahavan, who tipped his low effort around the post.
Thomas headed a good chance wide for Bournemouth less than 30 seconds after the restart and Scott Malone forced Williams to make a reaction save.
The Cherries' Wes Fogden had a goal controversially ruled out for offside just after the hour before Colchester equalised with 18 minutes to go when Bournemouth defender Zubar put through his own net, after substitute Steven Gillespie had robbed Warren Cummings and crossed into the six-yard box.
