Match Preview

Duffy in race to sign new keeper Clyde manager Jim Duffy hopes to draft in a new goalkeeper in time to face Annan as on-loan Filip Mentel is sidelined through injury. Mentel, on loan from Dundee United, is struggling with an ankle problem and Duffy is hoping to secure a short-term replacement. Captain Paul Hay returns after a one-match ban and Iain Gray has recovered from the head knock he sustained against Alloa in midweek and will feature. Duffy said: "Our players are working extremely hard, but could do with a wee bit more guile or craft in our opponents' box. "We played well down at Annan in our first meeting and if we play like we did that day and get a wee break in front of goal we may well surprise a few people in this game." Annan manager Harry Cairney is short on strikers as his side bid to extend their impressive run. Athletic, unbeaten in their last six league matches, are without the injured Ian Harty, while David Cox and makeshift front man Bryan Gilfillan face late fitness tests. Cairney, whose side continued their fine season with a 2-0 success over Peterhead in midweek, said: "That was a good result in midweek and I have to praise our defence for a great shift. "They may need to do that again as Clyde played really well down at our place and we sneaked a 1-0 win. A similar result would be acceptable in this game."

Match Report

Stalemate in Clyde Annan missed the chance to pull five points clear at the top of the Scottish Third Division after playing out a bad-tempered 0-0 draw at Clyde. The home side showed absolutely no ambition, not recording a shot for the entire 90 minutes as they parked the proverbial bus to hold out for a draw. Clyde's Steven Sloan eventually engineered a chance before half-time but shot straight at Alan Combe when in a good position. Sean O'Connor then had the best chance of the game but his close-range left-footed effort was again saved comfortably by Combe. Clyde then attempted to shoot themselves in the foot when frustrated striker Stephen McDonald got sent off with 20 minutes left. But Annan still could not find an opening and Peter Watson's foul on Liam Cusack was enough to see him receive his second booking, as both sides finished a forgettable match with 10 men.
