James Constable's scrambled equaliser minutes after half time earned Southern League side Chippenham a replay against Worcester City.
The visitors, who are playing in Conference North, dominated the opening half and stormed into an early lead through the impressive Adam Webster.
He drilled in a low shot on six minutes after experienced defender Des Lyttle had headed down Liam McDonald's free-kick.
But with the influence of Iain Harvey, Chippenham fought back after the break and looked the most likely to win the match in front of a sell out crowd.
The equaliser came on 47 minutes. Harvey slotted through David Gilroy and his low shot was pushed out by keeper Danny McDonnell into the path of the electric Sam Allison. His follow-up attempt pinballed around the six-yard box before ending up in the net.
Constable, who has been watched by a number of professional clubs and spent a week training at Bristol City, was credited with the final touch.
Chippenham, however, were nearly caught out as they celebrated as minutes later Graham Hyde's free-kick was flicked on by Liam McDonald to Webster who showed great skill to chip the ball over Nathan Vaughan but on to the crossbar.
The best chance to win the tie fell to Chippenham, who until this year had not reached the first round since 1951.
A long ball by captain Gary Thorne put the defence under pressure and Constable used his pace to get beyond Hyde.
As he challenged McDonnell the ball broke lose to Gilroy but instead of lifting it into the unguarded net he placed the ball back into the arms of the grateful keeper who was just inside his box.
Constable was injured in the move and is now a major doubt from the replay next Monday.
