Match Preview

Breckin may return Chesterfield could add defender Ian Breckin to their squad for the visit of Oxford. Breckin did not travel to Aldershot on Saturday following the birth of his child and may come back into the reckoning. Dean Morgan missed the weekend victory with a recurrence of the groin injury he has recently returned from, but the forward is not expected to be out for too long this time. A handful of players are nursing minor knocks but assistant boss Tommy Wright is hopeful they will all be fit. "Some players have got little niggles but that is always the case at this stage of the season, it is nothing serious," said Wright. "We will see how they are but hopefully they will be available for selection." Oxford manager Chris Wilder has no new injury or suspension problems for the trip to Chesterfield. However, he could be tempted to make changes as he looks to halt a run of five defeats in a row in all competitions. The Us started Saturday`s 1-0 defeat against Gillingham in a 4-3-3 formation with loanee Steven Maclean leading the line with Alfie Potter and Tom Craddock playing on the wings, but Wilder may be tempted to change to 4-4-2. James Constable made his comeback from illness with a 45-minute appearance at the weekend and will be hoping to partner Maclean up front. Josh Payne could therefore drop to the bench with Tom Craddock moving to a wide midfield role.

Match Report

Spireites off the top Chesterfield crashed to a second straight home defeat as Oxford staged a fightback to end a five game losing run with a 2-1 win. Ian Morris scored for the first time in nearly two years to give Chesterfield an early lead but Steve MacLean and Tom Craddock struck in the second half to turn the game. Chesterfield's early pressure paid off in the 14th minute when Oxford failed to get the ball clear and Morris scored with a low shot from just outside the box. Craig Davies should have added a second but headed wide three minutes before half-time and the visitors hit back early in the second half. Maclean crossed deep to the back post where Craddock beat Tommy Lee with a downward header. MacLean pounced from close range in the 69th minute when Craddock and Simon Heslop pulled apart the home defence. Chesterfield piled on the pressure and Simon Ford hit the bar but Oxford deservedly held on.
