Match Preview

Lee boost for Spireites Chesterfield could be boosted by the return of first-choice goalkeeper Tommy Lee for the visit of Hartlepool. Lee has missed five league games and a Johnstone`s Paint Trophy tie since a groin injury forced him off in the closing stages of the home victory over Bury on September 13. Summer signing Greg Fleming has since deputised. Last season`s player of the year has resumed full training and was part of a strong side that played Derby in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Wednesday. Full-back Nathan Smith could be recalled to the starting line-up after being on the bench against Notts County last weekend following his return from international duty with Jamaica. Midfielders Derek Niven, Dwayne Mattis and Jamie Lowry are fit again and could also come into contention as manager John Sheridan looks to halt a four-game losing run in League One. Meanwhile, long-term injury victim Gregor Robertson (Achilles) is expected to resume full training within the next fortnight. Hartlepool midfielder Antony Sweeney is a major doubt for the trip. Sweeney sustained a groin strain in last week's home defeat to Wycombe and was replaced by Nathan Luscombe. Luscombe, a free transfer signing from Sunderland this summer, could make his first league start for Pools if Sweeney fails to prove his fitness. Pools first-team coach Mick Wadsworth is still without winger Nolberto Solano, who missed out last week due to a hamstring problem that is expected to keep him out for at least another week. Striker Colin Larkin, restricted to just three appearances this season, is still struggling with a knee injury. Strikers Adam Boyd and Colin Nish are both hoping to return to the starting line-up after James Poole and Andy Monkhouse were preferred against Wanderers. Wadsworth's side were unbeaten in their first nine league games this season but have now lost their last three.

Match Report

Spireites go down fighting Chesterfield slumped to a fifth straight league defeat when Hartlepool ended a three-game losing streak with a 3-2 win at the B2net Stadium. Leon Clarke gave Chesterfield an early lead with his 50th league goal, but Paul Murray and a James Poole double put Hartlepool in control before Dean Holden pulled on back. Chesterfield started positively when Alex Mendy stepped over a low cross and Clarke bent a left-footed shot into the corner in the 10th minute. But a poor punch by Greg Fleming, who came on when Tommy Lee was injured in the warm-up, allowed Murray to loop a header into the net in the 17th minute and two minutes later James Poole beat the stand-in goalkeeper with an unstoppable shot from 25 yards. Fleming did well to push a 35-yard shot from Andy Monkhouse over, but was beaten three minutes into the second half when Poole headed in Evan Horwood's cross. Chesterfield responded three minutes later when Holden turned in a deflected shot and although Clarke netted in stoppage time, the flag had already gone up for offside.
