Match Preview

All change for Spireites Chesterfield manager John Sheridan has promised changes to his side for the visit of Crewe. One change could be enforced after Drew Talbot suffered a broken nose during the midweek victory at Northampton. The forward is a doubt along with midfielder Mark Allott, who missed the match at Sixfields with the hamstring problem that forced him off at half-time in the defeat at Rotherham last weekend. "The team that won the game on Tuesday night will not be the team that plays on Saturday," said Sheridan. Jack Lester looks likely to start after the veteran striker`s introduction from the bench at Northampton swung the game in Chesterfield`s favour. Ajay Leitch-Smith is in contention to make his first start of the season. The 20-year-old striker has scored twice in three substitute appearances this season, most recently to earn Alex a point against Macclesfield on Tuesday night. He then added strength to his claims for a starting role by scoring two goals for the reserves the following day. "Ajay is definitely in contention for his first start," said Alex assistant manager Steve Davis. "We are struggling to take chances, so we can't ignore that Ajay is staking his claim." Joel Grant could be a doubt after he was substituted at half-time against Macclesfield. Crewe extended their unbeaten league run to seven games against the Silkmen, however, five of those have been 1-1 draws.

Match Report

Spireites mount comeback for point Chesterfield rescued their unbeaten home league record when they staged a stunning fightback to deny Crewe with a 5-5 draw in a 10-goal thriller. Crewe had led 4-1 at half time and 5-3 with two minutes left but Chesterfield's pressure paid off when Craig Clay levelled in stoppage time. Crewe went ahead in the third minute when Byron Moore swung in a cross to the back post and Luke Murphy headed in. Three minutes later, Lee Bell curled a 20-yard free kick into the top right corner and Chesterfield were caught cold in the 13th minute when a defensive error let Moore in to score. Jack Lester headed a goal back in the 23rd minute but Crewe's three-goal cushion was restored when Shaun Miller went clear to go round goalkeeper Tommy Lee. The second half was a different story as Chesterfield pushed Crewe back and Lester headed his second from a Craig Davies cross in the 73rd minute. Crewe were rocking four minutes later when Danny Whittaker drove in a penalty after Dean Morgan was tripped, but Donaldson made it five for Crewe from close range two minutes later. But another Whittaker spot-kick gave the home side hope and Clay capped an amazing game with a 25-yard drive in the third minute of added stoppage time.
