Match Report

Chesterfield made it seven games without a win but created enough chances to take victory at Bloomfield Road.

A first-half goal from Blackpool's player-coach Simon Grayson was enough to separate the sides but home keeper Lee Jones was by far the busier for most of the game.

Chesterfield made a bright start and could have gone ahead on seven minutes when veteran hitman Wayne Allison got in behind Rob Edwards only to see Jones hurry off his line to snuff out the danger.

On 12 minutes Allison's lively looking strike partner Caleb Folan, who scored in the last minute when the two sides met at Saltergate earlier in the season, got in behind the Blackpool defence and looked certain to score but his shot beat Jones and came back off the crossbar.

Grayson, a revelation in central midfield for the Seasiders this season, broke the deadlock on 18 minutes when Chesterfield were unable to clear their lines properly and the former Leicester man hit a 20-yard shot which beat on-loan Hungarian goalkeeper Marton Fulop and crept into the corner.

But the pattern of Chesterfield domination continued throughout the first half and Jones was forced into another fine save when skipper Ian Evatt found himself in space after a corner. Jones had to be alert to palm away the goal bound header.

But Blackpool did have the most clear-cut chance of the half and it fell to big striker John Murphy.

Keigan Parker, playing his last game of the season before a double hernia operation, ran at the heart of the Chesterfield defence before hitting a cross-cum-shot which found Murphy unmarked two yards out but the ball surprised the big man and he was unable to turn it goalwards.

Chesterfield continued to enjoy some good chances after the break and Blackpool's inspirational skipper Peter Clarke twice had to clear off his line after efforts from Allison and Evatt.

At the other end Martin Bullock found space in the Chesterfield area on a couple of occasions but was unable to convert, while another Parker run ended in a powerful shot which Fulop did well to turn around the post.

By the end of the game Chesterfield were playing five men up front and even pushed Fulop forward in injury time, although that ended with a booking for the big keeper after he flattened three Blackpool players in his efforts to get a head on the ball.
