Match Report

League Two high-flyers Wycombe Wanderers and Chester City shared six goals in a game high in excitement but lacking in real quality at the Causeway Stadium.

The Buckinghamshire hosts preserve the football league's only unbeaten league record, ahead of their trip to table topping Grimbsy Town next week.

The first goal came on 10 minutes. Marcus Richardson holding the ball up in the Wycombe area following a long ball and feeding the run of Stewart Drummond and his shot hit the underside of the bar before nestling into the Wycombe net.

The hosts, though stunned, fought back well and midfielder Kevin Betsy had a shot well saved 10 minutes later by visiting keeper Chris MacKenzie.

The equaliser came five minutes later from the best move of the first half. A cross from Argentinian Sergio Torres found veteran striker Tommy Mooney at the far post and his volley flew past the surprised MacKenzie.

The Wycombe advantage, which they gained from the equaliser, was short lived. Following a Wycombe attack10 minutes later, Chester broke well down the left-hand side and a Carl Regan cross was poked in by Michael Branch.

Just before half-time Branch nearly doubled the Chester lead when his shot hit the post with Wycombe goalkeeper Frank Talia stranded.

The game continued to ebb and flow and the Chairboys' second equaliser came on the stroke of half-time. A Stefan Oakes free-kick was headed in rather tamely by Wycombe skipper Roger Johnson with MacKenzie seeming to make a complete hash of the save.

Five minutes into the second half, the hosts took the lead for the first time. A Betsy cross fell nicely for Mooney to finish from six yards to record a brace.

Ten minutes after that, Chester equalised following an innocuous throw-in. Branch swiftly turned in the area and finished for his second goal of the game.

In injury time the visitors were unlucky not to take all three points but Branch again smacked his effort off the woodwork.
