Match Report
In the end this was a comfortable victory for Wycombe, but struggling Chester gave it their best shot on another frustrating night for them.
On a blustery night at Adams Park the visitors created the best of the few early half-chances.
Richie Partridge and leading scorer Ryan Lowe both forced Wanderers 'keeper Jamie Young into decent saves.
The hosts were probing and were monopolising possession, but they couldn't create anything clear-cut.
Craig Woodman fired a free-kick wide, but battling Chester quickly responded with wide-man Kevin Ellison himself shooting wide from a decent position.
However, the deadlock was finally broken by Peter Taylor's side on 26 minutes.
Jon-Paul Pittman crossed from the left and Matt Phillips stroked home a sweetly-struck left-footed shot from 12 yards.
Lowe responded with a wayward shot for City, but the hosts' tails were now up and Phillips and Stuart Beavon both came close to doubling the lead.
Chester came back again though, this time with David Mannix lining up to take a shot, only to fire it well over the crossbar from well outside the Wycombe box.
Ellison then saw a shot parried by home stopper Young.
Six minutes after the restart Ellison came mighty close to a leveller for Chester. He fired in a terrific drive from distance that 'keeper Young did well to tip over the crossbar.
Midfielder Chris Zebroski was trying desperately to drive Wycombe on, and just before the hour mark he saw a crisp drive saved by John Danby.
Danby then had to be alert to keep out a well-directed Phillips header.
Wycombe finally got their deserved second goal on 66 minutes. Zebroski planted a header into the danger zone and there was Pittman who smashed home from eight yards.
