The ref has blown his whistle and the match has started.
Chester came from behind and scored a last-minute winner to snatch all three points at Spotland. Rochdale had what appeared to be a victory snatched away from them in the dying seconds when a seemingly perfect good goal by Adam Le Fondre was adjudged offside and then saw Kevin Ellison stride through their static defence to win the game for the visitors. Whilst critical of his side's defending, Rochdale boss Keith Hill was adamant that the disallowed goal should have stood. He said after the game: "We have watched it now on video several times and it was definitely, definitely not offside.'' In a real game of two halves Rochdale were much the better in the first period, but went off the boil in the second-half, allowing the visitors to come back into the contest. The opening goal of the game came courtesy of a mistake by Chester keeper John Danby, as he made a complete hash of punching clear a Ben Muirhead corner and from the resulting melee Rochdale defender Simon Ramsden blasted home from ten yards. The visitors did improve after the break and drew level on 58 minutes when Ellison pulled the ball back from the by-line and veteran midfielder Tony Grant shot home from 15 yards. The home side thought they had won it when Le Fondre turned home Chris Dagnall's cross but within seconds of his goal being cancelled out, Ellison raced on to a through ball from substitute Kevin Sandwith to fire past home keeper James Spencer from 20 yards.
