Ryan Lowe grabbed an injury-time winner to bring Chester's new manger Keith Curle victory in his first official match in charge. Lowe beat Oxford's offside trap and sprinted from virtually the half way line before cutting inside Matthew Robinson and shooting past United's player-of-the-year Chris Tardif. The late winner perfectly summed up Oxford's season. They had conceded countless late goals throughout the campaign. Oxford have a new boss, Brian Talbot, but he does not take charge until Monday. The Oxford team was taken by caretaker-boss David Oldfield. Steve Basham missed a good early chance for the U's when he failed to get much contact on a left-foot shot from eight yards after Chris MacKenzie saved Tommy Mooney's angled drive. Basham broke Chester's offside trap and raced forward 30 yards only to see his shot saved well again by Chris MacKenzie. It was a meaningless end-of-season game with little atmosphere in the ground, despite both teams having new managers. Teenage substitute Paul Burton went close for Oxford with a 40-yard drive which was saved. But Chester defender Phil Bolland almost scored an own goal for Oxford six minutes from time when he turned Chris Hackett's corner against his own post.
