Match Report

The Cheshire derby spoils were shared as Chester and Macclesfield's seasons ended with a tame goalless draw.

With both sides having ensured their league status for another season there was little at stake other than bragging rights for the two local rivals who seemed to be happy to go through the motions.

Chester had started brightly and should have gone ahead in the ninth minute when Richie Partridge was wasteful, side footing his shot over the bar from 10 yards out after being set up by John Murphy.

The visitors were unlucky on 16 minutes when a fiercely stuck shot from 12 yards by John Rooney cannoned off the crossbar.

A Kevin Sandwith shot from distance went a couple of feet wide of the target and in first half added time Murphy's header only just cleared the bar.

The home side dominated proceedings in the second period and went close on several occasions. Paul Rutherford engineered a shooting opportunity for himself five minutes into the second half but his curling effort went over.

With the game petering out into a meaningless encounter, Chester took the opportunity to gives a debut to Andy Mitchell who was given just over half an hour of action after replacing Paul Rutherford.

The brightest moment of the game came on 65 minutes from winger Richie Partridge who cut inside from the right flank and chipped a delightful effort that keeper Jonny Brain had to backpeddle to tip over.
