Match Report

Chester City picked up their first points of the season with a thumping win against struggling Barnet.

Kevin Ellison started the rout with the opener on 32 minutes before four second-half goals from the home side gave Chester manager Simon Davies a welcome win.

The visitors had almost gone ahead in the seventh minute when Adam Birchall teed up Luke Medley whose low shot appeared destined for the bottom corner until it was tipped around the post by Chester keeper John Danby.

But it was Chester who took the lead when Ellison exchanged passes with Ryan Lowe before driving the ball into the bottom corner from 25 yards out.

Birchall nearly pulled Barnet level with a shot from a wide angle which flew narrowly past the post a minute before the interval, but in the second half it was all one-way traffic as Chester ran their opponents ragged.

The home side's advantage was doubled in the 57th minute through Ryan Lowe. Ellison robbed the ball off captain Michael Leary on the left and crossed to Lowe who sidestepped the challenge of Jeremy de Magalhaes, before coolly slotting the ball into the net.

The game was made safe on 62 minutes after a free-kick was expertly delivered to the back post where captain Paul Linwood arrived to volley in from close range.

Kevin Roberts added a fourth on 65 minutes poking the ball home after his initial header from Lowe's corner had been blocked on the line, and a fifth came 11 minutes from time as Lowe beat the offside trap and side-footed into the net.

Barnet grabbed a consolation goal deep in stoppage time when substitute Cliff Akurang tapped in after an attempted clearance had been deflected into his path.
