Match Report

Cheltenham missed a chance to move above Yeovil in this League One relegation scrap.

Ashley Vincent fired in a first-half opener for the home side and had it stayed 1-0 Cheltenham would have climbed above the Glovers on goal difference, but in the 75th minute Luke Rodgers headed his first goal for the visitors to save a point and give them a three-point advantage over their West Country rivals.

Cheltenham started strongly despite being weakened by a crop of injuries and in the first two minutes Vincent fired wide from a good position and skipper John Finnigan also hammered a drive wide when Yeovil's defence opened up.

The home side began to have more of the play and were piling into attack for a corner when Cheltenham broke to take the lead.

A long ball out of defence was flicked on by Barry Hayles. Vincent picked it up on the right and cut in to fire a low shot off the far post of keeper Josh Wagenaar.

The second half failed to hit the heights and although Yeovil were doing most of the pressing they were failing to create clear-cut chances.

However, on 75 minutes Andy Welsh, on as a substitute, showed a clean pair of heels to former Yeovil man Andy Lindegaard and provided a perfect cross which Rodgers headed in although keeper Scott Brown got a hand to the ball.

It sparked a spell of Yeovil pressure and one shot from Danny Schofield was deflected onto the top of the bar.

But on balance the draw was a fair enough result and Yeovil manager Russell Slade said: "I would have liked six points from the two games this week, but I will settle for four."
