Match Preview

Low has high hopes Josh Low stands a chance of returning to the fold as Cheltenham look to bounce back from Saturday`s disappointing defeat when neighbours Oxford come to town. Town put in a laboured display as they slumped to a 2-0 home defeat to Bury and Low could provide a timely boost upon his return from the calf strain that has ruled him out of the last two games. The midfielder will train with the rest of his team-mates on Monday before manager Mark Yates, who has no new injury problems, makes a decision on his fitness. Yates was furious with the manner of Saturday`s loss and he is calling for a big response from his side, with one or two changes not out of the question. "We have to be ready for Tuesday and I know I certainly am. I`m delighted we have a chance to put our last game right with a match this quickly," the Town boss told the club`s official website, while also revealing he and his team were in on Sunday to run over a DVD of the Bury defeat. "There is no crisis here but we do need to address what was a poor performance. The players owe themselves, the club and the supporters to do better than they did at the weekend." Oxford will be without James Constable. The striker was sent off in the 1-1 draw with Crewe at the weekend after receiving two yellow cards and will miss the trip to Whaddon Road with Jack Midson possibly deputising. Manager Chris Wilder's only injury doubt is midfielder Josh Payne who suffered an eye injury at Gresty Road but is expected to be fit. Damien Batt is still out so Mark Creighton and Harry Worley will continue in defence and Rhys Day could be back in contention for a place on the bench. Jake Wright needs another week in training before he can return to the squad while midfielder Simon Clist played in the reserves this week and could force his way back into the squad.

Match Report

Brown gaffe gifts Us a point A mistake from Cheltenham goalkeeper Scott Brown gifted Oxford a point in a 1-1 draw at the Abbey Business Stadium. The Robins dominated the first half and took the lead through Wes Thomas, but Jack Midson levelled after the break as Oxford showed a big improvement to continue their unbeaten away run. Oxford's Ryan Clarke saved from Jeff Goulding in the fourth minute after Keith Lowe's free-kick was not dealt with and Andy Gallinagh headed wide from Danny Andrew's inswinging corner. But the home side's pressure finally told when Thomas headed Cheltenham into a deserved lead in the 29th minute, looping Andrew's cross over Clarke for his seventh of the season. Oxford substitute Leigh Franks almost gifted Cheltenham a second goal two minutes into the second half but Clarke did well to scamper back and keep out his defender's attempted clearance. But Oxford capitalised on some generosity at the other end when Brown fumbled Tom Craddock's seemingly harmless shot, giving Midson the simplest of tap-ins to make it 1-1 in the 59th minute.
