Robins welcome Wes back Cheltenham welcome Wesley Thomas back into their squad for the home clash against Crewe. The striker scored the Robins` opener in last weekend`s 1-1 draw at Gillingham but, having taken a knock in the game, was rested for Tuesday`s narrow Carling Cup defeat at Brentford. He is now back to full fitness and ready to start against the Alex as Mark Yates` side look to get off to winning ways at Whaddon Road. Theo Lewis remains out with glandular fever, although he is progressing much better than first predicted with a return to light training and hopefully a place back within the Town squad for full training within a week or two. On-loan striker Shaun Jeffers has been called into England`s Under-19 squad for their clash against Slovakia on Thursday September 2. Crewe will again be without Carl Martin and Steve Phillips for the trip. Defender Martin (shin) is yet to feature this season and will not travel to Whaddon Road, while Phillips continues to step up his recovery from a double shoulder operation over the summer. Rhys Taylor will again start in goal. Striker AJ Leitch-Smith is also a slight doubt having taken a knock to his ankle, but he should be okay. Otherwise, manager Dario Gradi has a fully-fit squad as the Alex look to build on their 1-0 Carling Cup triumph over Championship side Derby in midweek and get some first league points of the season on the board. Youngsters Harry Davis and Kelvin Mellor have both joined Stafford Rangers on initial one-month deals and will therefore not be available.

Thomas inspires Robins comeback In-form Wesley Thomas bagged a brace as Cheltenham came from behind to register their first win of the season with a 3-2 win over Crewe. It was the visitors who drew first blood in spectacular fashion when Patrick Ada smashed in a volley with just three minutes on the clock. Cheltenham equalised after 22 minutes when Thomas fired in at the back post after a Brian Smikle shot had been saved by Rhys Taylor. The Robins went ahead just before the break when Thomas pounced at the far post after Smikle's right-foot shot was only half saved by Taylor. Mark Yates' side peppered the Crewe goal before the break with Taylor making a string of saves but it was the visitors who found the net after 48 minutes when Calvin Zola lashed in a Ashley Westwood cross at the back post. But Cheltenham hit back with Jeff Goulding restored their advantage with a sharp turn and low drive past a wrong-footed Taylor on 62 minutes. Scott Brown produced a point-blank save to deny Shaun Miller a headed equaliser on 75 minutes while in the last minute Westswood's through ball eluded everyone including keeper Brown and hit the post.
