Match Report

Chelsea continue their late charge for a third Premier League title in four seasons when Wigan Athletic visit Stamford Bridge on Monday.

It is the first game in a vital four days for Avram Grant's side as they play Everton on Thursday in a match controversially brought forward from next weekend for television reasons.

Last weekend's 2-0 victory at Manchester City lifted the Blues to within three points of Manchester United after Sir Alex Ferguson's side were surprisingly held to a 2-2 draw by Middlesbrough.

United are still to visit Stamford Bridge and it is Grant's team that are in the best form having not tasted defeat in the Premier League since the 1-0 loss at Arsenal in December.

Despite losing the Carling Cup Final to Tottenham and slumping to a shock FA Cup exit at Championship strugglers Barnsley, Chelsea have won 12 and drawn four of their last 16 league matches.

The Blues' only injury worries concern their goalkeepers as Petr Cech is sidelined with the horrific facial injury he suffered in training on Sunday, while Carlo Cudicini picked up a hamstring injury in Tuesday's Champions League victory against Fenerbahce.

Third-choice shot-stopper Hilario replaced the Italian in the 2-0 quarter-final second leg encounter against the Turkish side, but Chelsea have been given special dispensation to sign a new keeper on an emergency loan arrangement.

Wigan seem certain to be starting their fourth season in English football's top-flight in August after last weekend's 2-0 victory against Birmingham City lifted Steve Bruce's side eight points clear of the bottom three.

However, they continue to struggle on their travels, winning only one of their 17 matches away from the JJB Stadium this season.

Since crashing to an embarrassing 4-1 defeat at Bolton Wanderers in early December, the Latics have steadily improved and have taken 13 points from their last five matches.

However, the story is very different away from home where they have secured only one point in five games since beating Derby County 1-0 at Pride Park three months ago.

Erik Edman is the only definite absentee for Bruce on Monday as the Swedish defender has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a cruciate knee ligament injury.

Last season Chelsea strolled to a 4-0 win against Wigan at Stamford Bridge with Frank Lampard, Arjen Robben and Didier Drogba all on the scoresheet while Chris Kirkland was credited with an own goal.
