Live Text Commentary
Full time

FT:West Ham 0-4 Chelsea: Chelsea hit back at their critics with a display of true class at Upton Park as they demolished an off-colour West Ham United side.

87

Michael essien with another chance now as he drives through the defence but again screws his shot wide of the target.

84
Substitution

Alex gets a short run out as Claude Makelele departs for Chelsea.

80

Essien has a great chance to make it 5-0 but he fluffs his lines from close range as he drags his effort tamely wide.

76

The game has really turned into a nothing affair now and West Ham have been very off colour while Chelsea have done what they needed to do.

74
Substitution

Salomon Kalou has had a good day and he gets a well earned rest as Florent Malouda replaces him on the left of midfield.

73

Chelsea are cruising now towards the three points and with Arsenal currently losing this could be a very big day in the title race.

69
Substitution

Now Chelsea make a change as the highly impressive Joe Cole is replaced by the combative Michael Essien.

66
Substitution

Julien Faubert is replaced now by Nolberto Solano but it will make little difference.

65
Substitution

West Ham make a second change and the almost forgotten man that is Bobby Zamora comes on to replace Carlton Cole.

64
Goal

GOAL:West Ham 0-4 Chelsea: (64mins) From absolutely nowhere Chelsea are on the break and Kalou has his shot saved by Green but Ashley Cole follows up to finish it off and end matters once and for all.

62

A superb clearance from John Terry to prevent a goal for West Ham - Cole gets in behind and lobs it beautifully over Cech but somehow Terry gets back to overhead kick it off the line.

60

The game has slowed down from that lively first period and no chances are being created and possibly the Hammers have given up on this a little.

58

Chelsea are not concerning themselves with too much attacking in this half and are prepared to take the pressure from West Ham.

55

The lack of consistency from the referee in this game is remarkable but West Ham still don't look like they are going to find a way through.

53

Disgusting from Makelele! The midfielder goes over the top on Faubert and its a potential leg breaker but unbelievably not only does he escape a red card but the referee does not even have a word.

51

Chelsea still look relatively comfortable despite the Hammers possession and the Lampard dismissal may well have just confirmed their desire to try and see this out.

49

West Ham have started brightly in this second half and it also looks like Ferreira has a problem and may well have to be replaced.

Second half

West Ham actually dominated the possession in that first half and if they can do so again and get an early goal they could put the frighteners on Chelsea in this period.

45
Substitution

The home side are going to give it a go as the controversial Luis Boa Morte is replaced by Dean Ashton who will partner Cole up front.

Half time

HT:West Ham 0-3 Chelsea: High drama as Chelsea looked to have ended the game with three goals in five minutes but Lampard's red card could change things now.

44
Yellow Card

John Terry is booked for a careless tackle on Calrton Cole.

43

Things have suddenly gone very very quiet on the field of play after that few minutes of madness and it will probably be this way at the break.

41

In saying that here come Chelsea and Nicolas Anelka in particular as the French striker drives towards the defence and blasts a shot just over.

40

After plenty of pushing, shoving and basically prancing around each other the game is underway again and West Ham look hungrier now and might fancy it.

37

That could be the route back into the game that West Ham were looking for - can they take advantage before the break?

36

The incident involved Boa Morte and it appears that Lampard pushed the Portuguese to the floor - it probably should not be a red card but in the current climate it was a pretty stupid thing to do.

35
Yellow Card

Michael Ballack is booked for his complaints at the decision.

35
Red Card

Frank Lampard is sent off and there is all sorts going on here - didn't see what happened there but will update when a replay comes (red card later rescinded by the FA).

32

And Cech is in action again as the lively Cole knocks it down and Noble is striding onto it and hits a beauty that the big keeper has to parry behind for a corner - better from the Irons.

31

Chances at both ends within 30 seconds as Kalou is smothered by Green before West Ham break and Cole has an almost identical chance but sees his effort stopped by Cech - what a chance!

28

Faubert drills a free-kick just wide as West Ham attempt to get a foothold in the game but its surely too far for them to come back from here unless they can get at least one before the break.

25

Chelsea are playing superb football, perhaps in response to the criticism Grant has received this week, and West Ham look more than a little lost out there, the question is in danger of becoming how many the Blues will get?

22
Goal

GOAL:West Ham 0-3 Chelsea: (22mins) It's all over already as Ballack strikes a superb volley beyond Green and Chelsea are rampant.

20
Goal

GOAL:West Ham 0-2 Chelsea: (20mins) Joe Cole bends a superb effort into the top corner from Anelka's cutback and its brilliant. Two goals in three minutes from two Hammers old boys and they are in real trouble now.

19

That will have done Lampard's popularity with the home fans no favours but I am not sure he will mind too much - Chelsea look solid and it will be tough for the Hammers from here.

17
Goal

GOAL:West Ham 0-1 Chelsea: (17mins) Lampard lashes the penalty past Green to silence the home crowds jeers and Chelsea deserve it.

15

Salomon Kalou drives at Anton Ferdinand and the defender trips him to the floor and referee Walton has no doubt and Chelsea have a penalty.

13

It is a really lively opening here at Upton Park with both sides looking dangerous - goals will surely follow soon.

10

Replays appear to show that that early Chelsea effort should have been allowed to coutn as Anelka is not in an offside position - no doubt there will be further discussion into the offside rule after this.

8

Frank Lampard is getting the usual amount of stick from the Hammers fans but he comes close to silencing them as he drills a right footed shot just over the bar with Green beaten.

6

West Ham are managing to take some sort of control now having absorbed a lot of early pressure and Cole flashes a long ranger narrowly over.

3

Chelsea were accused of a lack of hunger in the Cup Final last week but they look really up for this and the ball is zipping around the midfield.

1

Chelsea almost have the perfect start but Nicolas Anelka's goal early goal is disallowed for offside as he taps home Terry's knockdown - a let off for West Ham.
