Match Preview

Jackson blow for Addicks Charlton will be without captain Johnnie Jackson for Monday night's top-of-the-table clash with Huddersfield. Jackson suffered a hamstring injury towards the end of the 1-0 win at Brentford last weekend and could be out until the new year. QPR loanee Hogan Ephraim looks set to make his full debut on the left of midfield in Jackson's place while defender Matt Taylor takes the captain's armband. Boss Chris Powell is otherwise expected to name an unchanged line-up, although Darel Russell could be added to the bench after completing a loan move from Preston on Thursday. Fellow midfielder Dale Stephens is the only other injury absentee for the leaders as he continues his recovery from an ankle operation. Huddersfield's new loan signing Jon Parkin could go straight into the starting line-up. Cardiff striker Parkin has joined until mid-January and could be a straight swap for Alan Lee, who sits out the first game of a three-match ban, alongside leading goalscorer Jordan Rhodes. But manager Lee Clark also has the option of recalling Lee Novak to the team, in which case Parkin will start on the substitutes' bench. Another loan deadline day capture, defender Alex Bruce, could also feature after joining from Leeds. Clark has no other new injury or suspension worries and is not expected to make any further changes as his side look to extend their record-breaking 43-game unbeaten Football League run. Midfielder Oscar Gobern is pushing for a recall to the matchday squad following an ankle injury and goalkeeper Alex Smithies remains the only long-term absentee after knee surgery.

Match Report

Addicks end Huddersfield run Huddersfield's record-breaking 43-game unbeaten run came to an end as Charlton extended their lead at the head of League One to seven points with a 2-0 victory at The Valley. Yann Kermorgant and Hogan Ephraim were on target in the first half and Lee Clark's side were unable to recover despite staging a second half rally. Huddersfield remain outside the automatic promotion places after their first league defeat in 11 months but a sixth successive win for Chris Powell's Charlton tightened their grip on the division's promotion race. Charlton took control of the game when Kermorgant gave the home side the lead in the 24th minute. The forward outjumped the visitors' defence to connect with Danny Green's cross and his well-placed header found the back of the net. Charlton continued to press and got their reward in the 41st minute when Ephraim doubled the lead. Bradley Wright-Phillips again tested Ian Bennett after a powerful run but while the keeper fended the striker's shot away, on-loan QPR midfielder Ephraim reacted first inside a crowded area to finish. Within two minutes of the restart Kermorgant leaped to send a header crashing against the Huddersfield bar and the striker again came close with a powerful free-kick. The visitors pressed in an effort to extend their remarkable run and twice struck the woodwork but Charlton's defence remained solid and Town's streak was over.
