Match Preview

Charlton wait for duo Scott Wagstaff and Akpo Sodje are injury doubts for Charlton ahead of the visit of leaders Brighton. Winger Wagstaff limped out of last weekend's 2-2 draw at Plymouth with a foot injury and was replaced by Lee Martin, who will now be in line to start. Striker Sodje missed out at Home Park with a knee problem and remains a doubt. Defender Simon Francis returns after hopping off the team coach on the way to Plymouth to be present at the birth of his daughter. Francis should return at right-back even though Christian Dailly deputised impressively, with the veteran Scot more likely to revert to centre-half. Full-backs Kelly Youga (knee) and Chris Solly (ankle) are still on the casualty list. Brighton striker Fran Sandaza needs a late fitness check. The recent signing from Dundee United missed last weekend's 1-1 draw with Bournemouth due to a thigh injury and has visited a specialist in his Spanish homeland. Winger Kazenga LuaLua, who scored against the Cherries, has an ongoing hamstring problem but should be able to start. Captain Gordon Greer is fully fit after a calf injury but looks likely to have to settle for a place on the bench again with Adam El-Abd and Tommy Elphick continuing at centre-half. Alan Navarro is the only definite absentee with the midfielder targeting a return from his ruptured cruciate ligament in February. Radostin Kishishev returns to The Valley, where he made 200 appearances in seven years with the Addicks.

Match Report

Clinical Seagulls hammer Charlton League One leaders Brighton showed their promotion credentials with an emphatic 4-0 demolition of Charlton at The Valley. Inigo Calderon opened the scoring in the first half and second-half strikes from Glenn Murray, Kazenga LuaLua and Matt Sparrow consigned the Addicks to a heavy defeat. Addicks goalkeeper Rob Elliot produced a stunning double save to deny both Sparrow and Elliott Bennett on 12 minutes. Pawel Abbott came within inches of heading Charlton in front when he connected with Lee Martin's 20th minute cross but his effort went inches over the bar. Brighton took the lead six minutes later after Charlton failed to clear from a corner, allowing Bennett to find Gary Dicker on the left of the area and his low cross was smashed home at the back post by Calderon. The visitors added a second after 62 minutes when Murray capitalised on Johnnie Jackson's poor attempted backpass before firing past Elliot. Substitute LuaLua's stunning 20-yard shot from a quickly taken short free-kick made it 3-0 nine minutes from time. And LuaLua turned provider in stoppage time when his cross was headed home by Sparrow as the leaders cemented their place at the top of the table.
