Match Preview

Cumbrians wait on Miller Carlisle's leading goalscorer Lee Miller is doubtful for the home clash with Stevenage due to a groin injury. The Scot was forced out of last week's 4-1 defeat at Chesterfield after scoring his fifth goal in six appearances for the Cumbrians since arriving from Middlesbrough in August. Craig Curran replaced Miller on Saturday and will be in contention to retain his place should the latter fail to make it. Carlisle have lost five of their last six games in total and three of their last four league matches, in which they have conceded 10 goals, and manager Greg Abbott may opt to make changes. Midfielder Tom Taiwo has been an unused substitute in the last two games but could win a recall, while defenders Danny Livesey and Stephen O'Halloran provide Abbott with extra options at the back. Stevenage will hope to have John Mousinho back. Midfielder Mousinho missed the 2-0 home defeat to Notts County last weekend after a hamstring injury forced him off early in the second half of the previous game - a 5-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday at the Lamex Stadium. His progress is being monitored and manager Graham Westley will make a late decision over his inclusion. Alan Julian, Phil Edwards, Chris Beardsley, Byron Harrison and Josh Walker - all on the bench against County - were part of a strong reserve-team line-up that drew with Oxford this week. The quintet, along with Robin Shroot and Guy Madjo, will hope to force their way into Westley's plans.

Match Report

Murphy sinks Stevanage again Peter Murphy came back to haunt Stevenage as his first-half header clinched Carlisle a hard-fought 1-0 win. The last time the two sides met was in the 2005 Conference play-off final when Murphy again scored the only goal of the game to put Carlisle back in the Football League. After losing three of their first four home games it was a determined Carlisle side who should have made victory much safer in the second half but for misses by Francois Zoko and substitute Jon-Paul McGovern. The stalemate was broken in the 27th minute when Murphy stole forward to get on the end of a floated cross from Danny Livesey and from an unmarked position on the left-half edge of the six-yard box he directed a low header across goalkeeper Chris Day and into the far corner. Stevenage had a better spell after the break and substitute Guy Majo tricked his way in to the six-yard box only to fail to find his man with the pull-back. Zoko missed a great chance to make it safe for Carlisle in the 73rd minute when he latched on to Day's poor clearance. The striker raced 40 yards only to drive his shot into the side netting with just the goalkeeper to beat.
