Match Preview

Thirlwell could give it a whirl Carlisle skipper Paul Thirlwell is hoping to end his month-long injury lay-off by returning to action in the FA Cup clash with Bournemouth. Midfielder Thirlwell has missed the last six games due to an ankle injury and could make his first appearance since the 4-2 home win over Bournemouth on October 27. The Cumbrians will be without central defender Peter Murphy again. He will be sidelined for a further four to six weeks after undergoing a hernia operation. Mike Edwards and Danny Livesey are expected to resume their partnership at the heart of defence, but manager Greg Abbott has the option of two teenage centre-halves after recently signing Valentin Gjokaj and Sean McGinty on loan from Derby and Manchester United respectively. Striker Danny Cadamarteri is not expected to return to contention after missing the last five games with a groin injury, while fellow forwards Lee Miller (hernia and ankle) and Rory Loy (broken leg) remain long-term absentees, so 18-year-old Mark Beck is expected to continue alongside Joe Garner up front after scoring twice in the midweek win at Yeovil. Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe will be forced into two changes to his in-form squad. On-loan Southampton forward Lee Barnard has not been given permission by his parent club to feature having sat out the first-round win while midfielder Harry Arter, a regular in the starting line-up, will miss out through suspension after picking up five yellow cards. The Cherries' chief, who celebrated his 35th birthday on Thursday, could hand a start to Eunan O'Kane, who has stepped off the bench on a regular basis, but one player who is not available to fill the void left by Arter is Richard Hughes. The 33-year-old midfielder had to be withdrawn just 10 minutes into his comeback game in midweek having been injured since last month. He came off as a precautionary measure after feeling a twinge in his hamstring. Stephane Zubar (thigh) is also out. Bournemouth are unbeaten since Howe returned for a second spell in charge, having not tasted defeat in any of the last 10 games in all competitions.
