Match Report

Stockport County are breathing down the necks of the teams in the League Two play-off places after securing their sixth win in seven league games at Bury.

The Hatters are within two points of Chesterfield in seventh following Anthony Pilkington's double and a Jason Taylor strike.

As for Bury, who scored through Andy Bishop and Glynn Hurst, they are just two points from the relegation places.

And new boss Alan Knill has a tough job trying to keep the Shakers in the Football League - despite playing well for large chunks of this thriller and leading 2-1 just after the break.

County opened the scoring when 19 year-old Pilkington unleashed a 20-yard right footer after seven minutes.

But Bury hit back when, first, Bishop and then Hurst both struck from close range. Hurst's second-half strike took a wicked deflection.

The Shakers were firmly in the ascendancy at this stage, but their heads soon dropped when Taylor levelled with a low left-footed shot from 20 yards in the 52nd minute, four minutes after Hurst had scored.

And their confidence sunk even further when Pilkington grabbed the winner when he swept home from close range two minutes before the hour.

It wasn't just the fact that it was the game's decider, it was the manner of the goal.

Bury's defence had numerous chances to clear, with at least two defenders and goalkeeper Jim Provett all having chances to clear the danger.

From then on there was only one side in it, with substitute Adam Proudlock having a couple of chances to extend the lead even further.
