Match Preview

Shakers start post-Knill era Managerless Bury begin life after Alan Knill without Steven Schumacher for the home clash with Oxford. The midfielder begins a two-match ban following his red card in last weekend`s goalless draw at Port Vale. However, several players have recovered from a sickness bug that swept through the dressing room prior to last weekend`s match. The players affected include Chris Holroyd, Phil Picken, Richard Eckersley, Michael Jones and Kyle Bennett. Striker Andy Bishop is on the treatment table after going through another knee operation and veteran defender Efe Sodje remains sidelined as he recovers from a broken arm. Bury announced the departure of Knill on Thursday and revealed a compensation package had been agreed for him to take over at npower Championship strugglers Scunthorpe. Striker Ryan Doble is in line to make his Oxford debut. The Southampton loanee is vying for a starting place after returning from international duty with Wales` Under-21s. Midfielder Paul McLaren returned to the side for the 3-0 win over Burton after a lay-off with a groin injury but was substituted at the break. Manager Chris Wilder confirmed that he will miss the game after receiving seven stitches in a cut just above his Achilles. Josh Payne will get the nod in midfield, with the 20-year-old earning warm praise from Wilder, who labelled him "a really talented footballer" in an interview on the club's official site. The Us have won two matches in a row to boost their hopes of back-to-back promotions.

Match Report

Shakers kick on Managerless Bury showed there is life after Alan Knill with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Oxford. The Shakers boosted their automatic promotion hopes by completing the double over Oxford in comfortable fashion. Nicky Ajose fired them in front in the first minute with a volleyed shot from 16 yards after hesitation from United centre-half Harry Worley. The division's top scorer, Ryan Lowe, drilled a low shot under Oxford goalkeeper Ryan Clarke on 63 minutes to make it 2-0, for his 25th goal of the season. And the impressive Ajose followed that with a similar goal, from a similar position, as he shot low to beat Clarke at his near post. That was Ajose's ninth goal in 15 starts for Bury, who chalked up their first win in five games, and appeared to show no ill effects from this week's departure of Knill and his coaching staff to Scunthorpe. Substitute Andy Haworth almost made it four near the end, but Clarke got down well to save his shot. Oxford's own play-off hopes were dealt a big blow by this defeat, but they had been poor on the day, with only Steve MacLean testing the Bury keeper.
