It's 3pm on Saturday, September 16th, the match has kicked off.
Striker Andy Williams hammered home his third goal of the season 10 minutes from time to secure Hereford a 1-0 win against Bury at Edgar Street and end a run of two successive defeats. But it had been tough going for the Bulls who had struggled to create many chances against a battling Bury side. Neither goalkeeper was exactly overworked in a first-half when chances at both ends were at a premium. Hereford, who had six changes to the side which was defeated against Wycombe in midweek, forced the first corner after eight minutes but Rob Purdie, one of the returning players, saw his flag-kick easily dealt with. Goalkeeper Wayne Brown, back for the first time since the opening game of the season, had a rare moment of action on 16 minutes when he had to block well at the feet of Tom Youngs as the striker raced through. Hereford created the best chance of the half two minutes later. Williams raced half the length of the pitch but, with Tim Sills and Stuart Fleetwood either side of him and better placed, the young striker elected to shoot and his effort was easily dealt with. Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel saved again shortly afterwards from Tamika Mkandawire's volley but there were few other moments to stir the blood as the half progressed. Man-of-the-match Dean Beckwith found time to leave his defence duties early in the second period and provided a fine cross for Sills to test Schmeichel with a powerful header. And Fleetwood should have done much better when he was in plenty of space to meet a fine cross from Williams only to direct his header wide of the target. At the other end, although Bury forced four more corners to add to their five from the first half, Brown had a relatively quiet time with few moments of real danger to spoil his return. Finally, 10 minutes from time, Simon Travis delivered a dangerous cross from the left and the ball reached Williams six yards out and he showed his skills with some instant control before lashing his shot home.
