Match Preview

Schumacher set for Shakers return Captain Steven Schumacher could return to Bury's starting line-up when they host Exeter. The midfielder was an unused substitute in the Shakers' last match, a 3-1 win over Yeovil, after missing seven weeks with a calf problem. Schumacher admitted that he is still not fully fit but will be hoping that a full week's training will convince manager Richie Barker to give him the nod. Shane Byrne is also in contention for a place in midfield after extending his loan spell at Gigg Lane by another month. Defender Mark Hughes was back in full training this week after recovering from a hamstring problem and could make the squad. Striker David Amoo is likely to retain his place in the first XI after rewarding Barker's faith in him with a goal in the win over the Glovers. Richard Duffy has been ruled out for Exeter after rolling his ankle in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat to Swindon in midweek. Defender Duffy was withdrawn after half an hour of the 2-1 home loss and is likely to be out for up to two weeks. There will be further selection difficulties at the back for Grecians manager Paul Tisdale, with Troy Archibald-Henville due to serve a one-match ban after collecting five yellow cards over the course of the season so far. On-loan midfielder Jake Taylor will also be missing for Exeter. The Reading starlet is on Wales Under-21s duty. Tisdale is likely to restore midfielders Matt Oakley and David Noble to the starting line-up after the pair were rested for the midweek match, and the City boss will keep faith with goalkeeper Artur Krysiak despite the Pole's gaffe which gifted Swindon their second goal on Tuesday night. Striker John O'Flynn is making steady progress in his recovery from an ankle injury and will take a spot on the bench, while midfielder Liam Sercombe could feature. Tisdale described the 21-year-old as "available but rusty".

Match Report

Shakers on the up Bury recorded back-to-back wins for only the second time this season after beating Exeter 2-0. Building on the previous week's win at Yeovil, the Shakers confidently took the points through an Andy Bishop strike and Matt Oakley's own goal. The hosts made their intentions clear within 45 seconds although Mike Jones could only fire wide from David Amoo's cross. But it didn't take them long to edge in front, with Bishop powering a header home from Peter Sweeney's in-swinging corner. Chances were few and far between for Exeter but Trevor Carson made a good reaction stop to deny Guillem Bauza from point-blank range. Bury doubled their lead four minutes after the break when Oakley scored a bizarre own goal, unable to do anything as Jones' cross cannoned off him and into the net. Artur Krysiak prevented Giles Coke from adding a third, getting down well to save the midfielder's close-range drive. For their part, Exeter never seriously threatened, Liam Sercombe pulling possibly their best opening narrowly wide, while at the other end, Coke wasted a golden opportunity to add a final flourish in injury time.
