Kevin Ellison headed the winner to help Chester City come from behind to overcome ten-man Bury.Andy Bishop became the hero-turned-villain after putting his side ahead, only to be given his marching orders on 65 minutes after two bookable offences.
Bury had enjoyed the better of the game in the first half and went ahead on 16 minutes with the opener from Bishop. Andy Parrish crossed from the right to Bishop, who received the ball with his back to goal and made a neat turn past Paul Linwood before slotting home with his left foot from eight yards out.
It was the Shakers who produced the better football of the first half and five minutes before the interval they had a chance to double the lead with Glynn Hurst heading just wide of the post after a fine cross from David Buchanan, who picked him out at the far post.Nicky Adams then found the sidenetting after a good run.
Deep in first-half added time the visitors were made to pay for those misses as Chester drew level through Mark Hughes. The Shakers failed to properly clear a corner and the ball fell to Hughes on the edge of the area and he rifled a low shot past Jim Provett.Kevin Roberts then forced Provett into a save at full length when he hit a goalbound effort from 20 yards out and Simon Yeo also stung the hands of the keeper with an effort on 63 minutes.
Goalscorer Bishop, who had already been booked, received his marching orders on 65 minutes when his mistimed tackle on Simon Marples earned him a second caution and the inevitable red card.
With a man down the visitors had to withstand concerted pressure from the home side, but could not hold firm as Ellison had the last word heading home via the post after a fine cross from Richie Partridge 11 minutes from time.
