Match Preview

Burton wait on McGrath Burton boss Paul Peschisolido will hope to have John McGrath available for the visit of Gillingham. The midfielder pulled out of the squad at Accrington in midweek after failing to make the recovery from a stomach bug that Peschisolido had anticipated. "We missed John McGrath on Saturday at Stockport and we missed him just as much at Accrington because he is one of those players we talk about with the right attitude," said the Canadian. "When all else goes wrong and when your passing and dribbling isn't good, there's no excuse for not running around, showing effort and closing down. John will do that and I can't wait to have him back in the side." Peschisolido could make changes after describing the performance in the defeat at Accrington as "lacklustre" and "desperate". On-loan Aston Villa youngster Jack Dyer could be given his full debut, while fellow midfielder Jimmy Phillips, defender Darren Moore and striker Greg Pearson are also available for recalls. Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler has an injury doubt over John Nutter for the trip. The left-back suffered a thigh strain during the second half of last weekend's 3-1 win over Accrington and will be assessed before the trip, although ready-made replacement Joe Martin is fit and available to deputise if necessary. Fellow defender Tony Sinclair is also doubtful with a slight ankle problem, while Danny Jackman could miss out after suffering a similar injury in a reserve outing against Brighton in midweek. Josh Gowling, along with midfielder Luke Rooney and Andy White, came through the second-string fixture unscathed with various amounts of game time under their belts, and all three could be in the squad to face the Brewers. Striker Dennis Oli is pushing for a starting role after a number of substitute appearances over recent weeks, although Adebayo Akinfenwa and Cody McDonald look set to resume their partnership in attack. The Gills are currently on an 11-match unbeaten run.

Match Report

McDonald earns Gills point Cody McDonald clinched a seventh successive draw on the road for promotion hopefuls Gillingham in a 1-1 draw at Burton`s Pirelli Stadium. Sam Winnall gave Burton a first-half lead, but a Gillingham fightback was rewarded when McDonald grabbed his 20th of the campaign. Defender Matthew Lawrence had a header cleared off the line as the Gills threatened to take control - only for the visitors to be rocked in the 27th minute. Winnall got a firm header to Andy Corbett's cross and ball found its way inside the far post despite goalkeeper Alan Julian getting a hand to it. Julian was almost beaten for a second time after a Jacques Maghoma shot crept under his body before Scott Malone denied Andy Barcham the equaliser with a superb goalline clearance in the 38th minute. Burton found themselves under pressure after the break and Adam Legzdins had to make a full-length save after Adebayo Akinfenwa swivelled for a right-foot shot in the 55th minute. Winnall went close to doubling Burton's lead in an isolated attack before Curtis Weston drove a good chance wide for the visitors. Gillingham's pressure paid off when McDonald levelled the scores with a neat turn and 12-yard shot in the 78th minute.
