Irish winger Keith Gilroy was the toast of Burton after a brilliant individual display clinched an historic FA Cup third round tie at home to Manchester United.
Burscough's hopes of continuing their giant-killing run were destroyed as Gilroy scored twice and helped to set up a third goal before half-time.
Gilroy gave the Brewers the lead in the eighth minute after winning the ball and then receiving Shaun Harrad's return pass to steer home a 12-yard shot.
Gilroy and Shaun Harrad then opened up the Burscough defence for skipper Darren Stride to score with a deflected shot from the edge of the area in the 16th minute.
Burton rode their luck at times, Saul Deeney's save and Chris Hall's goal-line clearance denying Tony Gray and Liam Blakeman.
However, Gilroy added a third goal for Nigel Clough's side nine minutes before the interval to make certain of a glamour tie with the Premiership giants in round three.
After Jake Sedgemore had headed against the crossbar for the home side, Burscough pulled a goal back on the hour when David Eaton scrambled the ball home from close range.
But Burton wrapped up a 4-1 victory six minutes from time when Harrad stabbed home the rebound after Jon Shaw had headed against the post.
