Match Report

An even contest at Deepdale, watched by 17,139, saw the Lancashire derby end in a goalless draw, Preston's second consecutive goalless draw at home in the league where they have only scored one goal.

Burnley had the first chance after 12 minutes when John Spicer ran through from the left channel and fired in a right-foot shot narrowly over the crossbar.

Preston captain Chris Lucketti replied with a good header from a left-wing cross that was saved by Danny Coyne in the Clarets goal.

Preston midfielder Paul McKenna was shown the yellow card for handball by referee Dermot Gallagher after 17 minutes.

Then it was McKenna's right-foot left-wing cross which Danny Dichio didn't quite reach and the Burnley keeper saved at his right-hand post.

On the half-hour mark a Jon Harley left-foot half-volley from the left wing was met by a diving header by Gifton Noel-Williams, but it went over the top of the bar.

Two minutes later David Nugent had a shot from a tight angle saved by Coyne for a right-wing corner.

There was one minute added but it was goalless at half-time.

Lucketti had a header saved by Coyne and James O'Connor had a 20-yard curled shot saved by Carlo Nash who dived to his left, spilled the ball, but saved at Ade Akinbiyi's feet from the rebound.

Akinbiyi then had a 20-yard right-foot curled shot from the left channel saved by Nash.

Tyrone Mears was booked for a foul on Harley, before the Burnley full-back had the best chance of the game, but shot wide of the right-hand post from just six yards out.

Hyde was booked for unsporting behaviour and Harley for a foul on Mears, but the game ended scoreless.
