McCann worry for M61 derby
Burnley are sweating on the fitness of Chris McCann for as they prepare to welcome neighbours Bolton to Turf Moor.
McCann headed the Clarets' first goal as Eddie Howe's men came from behind to overcome Port Vale 3-1 in the first round of the Capital One Cup, but the midfielder went over on his ankle later in the contest and is rated as 50/50 to face the Trotters.
Republic of Ireland winger Keith Treacy remains on the sidelines with a groin strain alongside midfielder Marvin Bartley, who hopes to resume training shortly after an ankle problem.
Martin Paterson and Sam Vokes will contest a starting place alongside midweek goalscorer Charlie Austin in attack having returned from international duty with Northern Ireland and Wales respectively.
Brian Stock made his debut at Vale Park and is now set for his league bow alongside fellow summer signings Jason Shackell and Joseph Mills, and the former Preston midfielder is aware of the atmosphere associated with inter-Lancashire hostilities.
"I've been in a local derby between Preston and Burnley so I know what it means to the fans here," he said. "It's going to be a tough game, a good atmosphere and a game you want to play in."
David N'Gog is Bolton's main injury concern due to a back problem.
Wanderers begin their bid for instant promotion following an 11-year stint in the Barclays Premier League with what is expected to be a fiery encounter against boss Owen Coyle's former employers.
On-loan Arsenal youngster Benik Afobe and returning Team GB squad member Marvin Sordell are ready to feature in attack alongside veteran skipper Kevin Davies, but Coyle hopes to have N'Gog among his forward options.
"He has had a niggle in his back, everyone else is fit and available," said Coyle, "David is the only one that has had any sort of problem. We're hoping that he can train with the group over the next two days and if he does we'll assess it from there."
Midfielder Stuart Holden remains on the sidelines as he continues his rehabilitation from knee surgery, but last season's other long term injury victims, Lee Chung-Yong and Tyrone Mears, are available once more.
Adam Bogdan will contest the goalkeeping jersey with summer signing Andy Lonergan after returning from international duty with Hungary, while fellow new recruits Matt Mills and Keith Andrews are set for debuts in defence and midfield respectively.
