Match Preview

Calm waters for Pirates Bristol Rovers have no new injury or suspension worries ahead of their clash with Southend. Wayne Brown is back in training following his ankle injury but the midfielder's target is only to return before the end of the season after a long time out of the game and he will not feature against the Shrimpers. Goalkeeper Michael Poke is not yet ready for competitive action despite returning to training after an ankle problem, so Scott Bevan will continue to fill in. Defensive duo Gary Sawyer (hamstring) and Aaron Downes (knee cartilage) are definitely out, while Adam Virgo remains a long-term casualty with a knee ligament injury. Rovers will be hoping to extend their unbeaten league run to four matches at the Memorial Stadium. Freddy Eastwood is in line for his second Southend debut. The striker has rejoined the Shrimpers on loan from Coventry until the end of the season, coming after he bagged 63 goals in 134 appearances for the club between 2004 and 2007. Midfielder Anthony Grant is back in contention having missed the last two games due to suspension as United look to regain a place in the top three. Striker Jack Sampson passed a fitness test on his groin injury to be named among the substitutes for Tuesday's disappointing 1-0 home defeat to Aldershot. Manager Paul Sturrock freshened up his XI with three changes for the encounter and Neil Harris, Kane Ferdinand and Luke Prosser are all firmly in contention for recalls against Rovers. Bilel Mohsni was watching from the stands in midweek, with the winger back at Southend for the first time since his show of indiscipline in last month's 1-0 defeat at Morecambe. It remains to be seen whether he will be involved. Liam Dickinson (ankle) and JP Kalala (knee) are out for the rest of the season.
